After the incident with Dorian's father? Athras couldn't help but understand why it might be harder to be genuine about emotions, especially pertaining to romance. Just being patient with his lover, which honestly wasn't hard when he enjoyed affection and intimacy as well especially with Dorian. Not that Dorian had to ask often; Athras was an affectionate person in general, finding it difficult not to simply settle into his lover's arms at every opportunity.
